It's the captain obvious course that dictates the law of averages. No human can out maneuver and be quicker than high tech programming.. is it not obvious that every high end top performing super car does not sport a clutchable stick shift, not even available anymore... think about why? Ask them for proof?? Sticks are a novelty and a nastalgic option still available on a few modern performance cars.. not because they out perform but because their more "fun" and "nastalgic".. let's not be silly any longer and get serious.. o_O
No, I'm asking you,
please support your claims with actual experience (or opinion if you have none) on the asphalt in the Hellcat, this thread I put up never questioned the comparison of any other automobile, and certainly not super cars, hyper cars or dual clutch automatics.
Also to all those posting in this thread I'd ask you to limit your replies to experience on the road course and save drag racing for the myriad of other threads regarding stop lights.

Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to run with any automatic Hellcats at any of the three 2+ mile roadcourses or any of the autocross events I've been too, to make a fare comparison, or judge for myself which car may run a faster lap time.
The idea just occurred to me to put up a thread where folks can put up actual road course lap time personal records, I would consider linking to anyone else's run as foul play.
At least a thread like that would start some sort of baseline for others to compare to, even if they didn't run on the same day.

I don't run road courses or drag racing .. just know modern statistics.. and that automatics out perform sticks across the board.. what else do you have to know.. lighting quick shifts with optimum gear selection and 8 speeds... I really don't think we have to do a study on this.. LOL!!

Not only does Viper ACR hold 13 track records (more than any other production car out there), it also holds the lap record at Nurburgring in the production car rear wheel drive category. Did I mention that it's a manual (M6)?

Anyhow, I know it's not a Hellcat but still cool facts and video. Action starts at the 2 minute mark.

Yea and they stop making those as well...

How can we be sure that the Viper wouldn't run quicker laps if it had an A8?

An A8 that could handle Viper-like power is just now available. Who knows; an A8 Viper might be in the Viper's near future.

Yea, They've done that before (2011-2012). It still holds more track records than any other production car and it's a manual.

Consider the video I posted from the other day on this thread to help show the advantages of one of the best automatics available in a passenger car.
Hellcat vs ZR1 corvette
I had tremendous confidence in what the A8 was doing for me. At the end of the straight, smooth braking, eyes looking at everything and steering were top on my mind, we lifted north of 150 mph, I went around the blue Vette at about 90, did turn two at about 75-80. In Track Mode that thing is nearly flawless and downshifts so absolutely smooth it seems to always be where it needs to be. Maybe with 500 - 600 ft lb of torque it don't matter anyway?

With a manual not only would I had one hand on the wheel instead of two, but I would also have been considering many gears between 150-70, and all down.

nice hole shot coming around the white vette on the left, looks like he had to work pretty hard to keep up before getting blocked back by the blue vette doing a parade/rain conservative or cool down lap?
I'd sure like to see some footage from inside the car for a good speed perspective. Nice driving!!

I know you appreciate the Auto VS manual because I have watched you do some laps with the manual. You also drive well.

The blue Vette was again a talented driver. The damn pit flagman must not have realized two of the fastest cars on the track were closing at 150+ and released the blue car. Odd and dangerous about this track is the pit exit at the end of the high speed straight yikes!
Thankfully you guys see the size of the concrete there. That is actually the continuation of the emergency drag strip runout for NHRA. Makes our track one of the more safe in the nation. Oh and we have the claim on the fastest TF speeds currently, thank you.

The ZR certainly did not have the momentum I had coming into the straight. It shows us road racers the benefit and necessity to understand your most important corners are the ones before long straights. Looking at this and one still photo I saw this morning of myself, I probably need to work it more to get a later apex and perhaps get even more speed down that straight.

Here we have is understood to be a superior cornering car that missed the corner (or perhaps was slowing because of the rain that was starting) but at the same time, the Cat makes the corner much faster, had much more speed entering the straight. This particular and ALL long straights should be treated the same, enter at the maximum turn exit speed. The good thing about the Hellcat is that we have the power to hold and gain on the momentum in the straight. This video is against one of our strongest competitors! That is our strong point ladies and gents, use it, work it and have fun!

This is just a personal opinion, based on auto cars from the past that I have driven, that shift unreliably based on road condition and construction. For this reason, I still just don't trust an auto-shift transmission when attempting to drive at ten-tenths.
Maybe it's just the older transmissions, and the newer auto transmissions have eliminated some of the unexpected downshifts and upshifts. Smooth, even tracks will likely favor a fast shifting auto. There have been situations of banking, and/or uneven or mid-corner "bumps" that require the driver learn that track and modify the approach and departure with finesse. This can be done with an manual with great precision. I am still not so sure about pedaling at the limit with and auto - even with both feet!
I may be expressing some "old school" problems that have already been addressed by the new cyber-technology.

If you put a Hellcat in Track mode and move the shifter to manual mode the shift paddles work quite well. The car does not downshift or upshift unless you tell it to.

Significant progress - with the car. Needs to be matched with my own personal progression!;) The thread seems to confirm that it's not the car that is fast(er), one way or the other, it's the driver! And fun, and fast, remains fun and fast!:D
