The redesigned hood scoop arrived at my dealership, and they are supposed to repaint my hood this week and install the new scoop. Here is a picture of the part number on the box. Can anyone confirm this is not the original part number?

Not with a satin hood :(
Don't want them to repaint mine, can get rock chip on the way back and then you won't have factory paint and the dealer body shop guy started talking how he might have to blend into fenders! no way!

So what exactly is the difference between the original and the revised scoop? I've had mine on order for several weeks and have yet to hear from the dealer about delivery? Is this something FCA insists the dealer R&R? My idea was to remove the original and swap it out myself as my wrap needs some attention where the scoop moved and I know the dealer service people will not spend the time to massage the vinyl back in place.

I have not really looked at the new scoop, but from what I got from speaking to some people at SRT, it is made out of a different grade of plastic to limit expansion from heat.

Still waiting for a picture of the back of the new scoop to ID what plastic it's made of. Or even just type it out here. Will be something like "ASA+PC". Often found near the part number and / or date code.

Hello,

I'm new to the forum, and am looking forward to sharing informative and valuable information. I have been following along for a few months on this discussion thread, as I have the hood scoop chipping problem also.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I was informed on Monday by my SRT customer service rep that the NEW hood scoops may not be available until the 4th quarter due to "material shortage." I will post any updates as I receive them.

Silent-H welcome to the forum. Enjoy your Demon and be safe. I spoke with FCA this week about my insert, small chips usual spots.I was asked if I needed the insert now or wait for final version at the end of the year. Mine fits fine and most people would not notice. I said that I would wait. I've talked with the same man at FCA each time.

I got the new scoop installed today. I can’t tell if the material is different or not but it looks very like the original scoop material.
The new scoop is substantially heavier than the original one. The base section is thicker and has heavy reinforcing ribs to keep it from buckling. It’s shorter left to right which gives it more room to expand and I was concerned that it would create some unsightly gaps at the ends but it does not. It looks great installed. The retrofit package as very complete It came with molded spacers to center scoop during install which are discarded after use. The existing mounting cups are also replaced with new ones sized to match the reinforced base. I believe the screws in the cups are larger as well. The screws screw into rubber isolated nuts in the scoop base. Still using double sided tape along the bottom and the top section has (8) push pins locating it which is new.
All in all it looks good and extremely solid compared to the original. I will let you know how it works long term.
I also had paint damage in the corners (satin black hood) and the shop touched it up and its fine. I would not look for them to do any more as I agree with others that you would end up with a bigger mess and it would not be original.

I have mine now too and it is very different from the original as you have said and has no markings or part # on the part itself. Hope this solves the problem. Looks good though.

Can anyone give some pointers on how the original scoop comes out? Ive removed the 2 8mm bolts and pulled the top part of the scoop down but it feels like the bottom part of the scoop is still held in somehow. Is it snapped in like the top?
Im getting the same sob story from FCA on the scoop backorder. Ive had my claim in for over a year. Im wanted to get my scoop out and touch up the damage before it gets worse.

I am not going to be able to describe the removal process accurately. Maybe others will! Its a bit of a blur as I got angry with it.
All I can tell you is my biggest issue was getting the top section down which you appear to have done already.
You may still have some double sided tape in the middle holding the bottom in place. If so you can use a plastic trim removal tool or something similar to pry the bottom up without damaging any paint. I also put masking tape all around and even slipped it under the insert somewhat before starting to protect paint.
Once you have the tape connection broken I believe you have to push it back (towards windshield) and proably down at same time to release the horizontal clips before pulling it up and out.
Beyond that I can’t tell you, as in my case it did not come out easy and I just applied more force until it did.
I don't want you to damage your paint and I especially don't want you to blame me for it so its your choice to try yourself or take it to Dodge.
But removing the insert does require a Forceful yet Delicate touch.
Hope this helps.

Bigbarcar is correct. Once you remove the bolts and cups from under the hood, you need to finesse the scoop out of the opening. I did this by putting masking tape around the hood opening, then inserting a plastic trim pry tool and GENTLY but firmly prying up on the bottom of the scoop until I could get my fingers under it to pull up and "walk down" to separate the 4-5 pieces of two way tape holding the bottom of the scoop insert down in the hood. Your fingers will hurt after this, but I did it this way to avoid damaging the paint by prying against it. Once you have the scoop loose in the hood opening, you can gently wiggle it out of the hood. Good luck and be patient and take your time, and it'll come out just fine.
